Expertise That Delivers
Summit Grant Writing helps Alaska nonprofits secure the funding they need to move their work forward. We bring a mix of writing, strategy, and local insight to help organizations connect with funders, tell their story, and build lasting support. From million-dollar federal proposals to community giving campaigns, we’ve worked with organizations like AWAIC, the Alaska Native Heritage Center, and the University of Alaska to strengthen fundraising efforts at every level. Alaska has no shortage of generous people and institutions, but many aren’t giving—not because they don’t care, but because they haven’t been asked clearly, confidently, or consistently. We believe strong fundraising starts by removing barriers to giving and succeeds when supporters feel seen, valued, and part of something bigger. Most people want to help. They just need a reason to act—and the trust that their support will make a difference.
Cannen Burgess, Founder
I’m Cannen, founder of Summit Grant Writing and a lifelong Alaskan with a background in grant writing, donor engagement, and nonprofit development. I’ve led everything from million-dollar proposals to six-figure campaigns and worked inside nonprofits managing the day-to-day challenges of compliance, donor systems, and outreach. I know how much is asked of small teams and how easily fundraising can get deprioritized — even when it’s essential to keeping programs running. That’s why I believe fundraising should feel more human and less overwhelming.
With training from Denali Daniels + Associates, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and the Nonprofit Storytelling Conference, I combine technical skill with a storytelling mindset to help you make a compelling case and build long-term momentum. Whether you’re pursuing your first grant or refining your overall strategy, I’m here to help you get organized and get funded.
